I have often been asked what the difference is between the Absorbent Pads used by Alva Baby®, but it is important to first explain what Inserts or Absorbent Pads are and what the characteristics of each one are.
Inserts are what make the diaper work and you can regulate or customize the absorbency of the diaper with our variety of Inserts, depending on the age and needs of your baby.
Here we tell you more about each of them.
MF or microfibre insert (white) is a very absorbent synthetic material but is not very retaining. Being made of 3 layers of fabric it is very compact, which is why it is ideal for babies from 4-6 kilos approx. who do not need much retention because their liquid intake is small.
5-layer charcoal bamboo insert made of fabric or commonly known as “Nocturno or Gray” whose function is to retain 
. It is used for babies over 6 kilos by placing a more absorbent insert underneath, such as microfibre. It absorbs more slowly, so it must be accompanied by another insert for greater retention. Because they are porous fibres, they dry quickly and do not stain.
Bamboo Terry 5-layer insert (Beige/Cream color) is a retaining insert. It is used under a more absorbent insert such as microfiber, as it absorbs slowly. Unlike charcoal bamboo, its absorption capacity is greater, it is thinner, but it takes a little longer to dry.
Which inserts are better 
The truth is that this question is difficult to answer. Each insert has a specific function for each stage of the baby's life. Since every baby is different, some pee more, some poop more, some eat solids, some sleep through the night, some are formula fed, some are EBF, and so on… there is no hard and fast rule about insert use for every baby.
You Can Add 1 or 2 Inserts to your diaper for extra absorbency, freely combine them until you find the perfect mix for you and your baby's needs. Always make sure that the microfiber insert goes on top of the natural fiber insert, as in the following photo.
IMPORTANT ALL CLOTH DIAPERS MUST BE CHANGED EVERY 3 HOURS.
Remember: “DIAPERING IS TRIAL AND ERROR” mix the inserts as needed to find out which one is ideal for your baby!
